About Us
Our Story
Tucked away in the heart of Northeast Minneapolis, the 1029 Bar is a neighborhood gem. It’s the kind of place where regulars, first-timers, and complete strangers end up trading stories at the same table by midnight. With cold drinks, dive bar food that kicks way above its weight class, and a laid-back vibe, don't be surprised when ‘just one drink’ turns into closing the place down.
For nearly 100 years
The 1029 has always been known as a great neighborhood bar, but in December 2010, things stepped up a notch. Local restaurateurs Josh Thoma and Kevin Fitzgerald took over the kitchen with their brand-new food truck, Smack Shack. They kicked things off with a traditional lobster boil that January, and soon, national cameras were paying attention. Guy Fieri rolled through in 2011 for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, putting our lobster rolls and cheesy lobster mac on the map. After fifteen years in the kitchen, Josh and Kevin took over the reins to run the whole joint, keeping that classic 1029 atmosphere going strong. The cold beer is still flowing, the pull tab booth is open, and the vibe hasn't changed a bit. Welcome to The Ten - there's nowhere else like it.
